St. Patrick’s Day Kindergarten Lesson Plan

I am so glad that I’ve incorporated theme days into our school year.  My son absolutely loves them!

For St. Patrick’s Day my son picked out a few activities that he wanted to do.  A BIG MUST are the activities using Lucky Charms!  He also scanned Pinterest with me to find his craft of choice.

Do you have any fun plans for next week? I’d love to hear what you’re doing. Leave a comment and let me know.

Valentine Theme Day Plans

100th Day was a huge success!

There were some things that weren’t that great…like when I wasted several, and I mean a lot of paper trying to print this "I Can Count to 100" book front to back.  After the 100th time of tweaking I finally got it the way I wanted.  So much for trying to save paper.

Also, our public library had slim pickings on the 100th Day book choices.  I wish Amazon offered a public library option on all of its book.  I’d pay for a membership to that!

Besides, those set backs I did discover that my son’s favorite thing so far this year was…Disney’s Frozen theme day!

100th Day Collage

Since my son loves theme days so much, I hope to include at least 2 a month.  My son is already talking about Valentine’s Day activities.

Here is a look at what we will be doing Friday. (Click the image below to download it.  Links are clickable.)

To Do Folder

I’m not sure how a lot of you homeschooling moms manage it.  Its hard!  It got even harder in our house when a little baby started crawling.  Oh, wait he did that on the first day of school.  The first day of school and I had to throw all my ideas, plans and expectations out the window.  By the grace of God we’ve managed.

On that first day of school I had to think quick.  What could I do to keep the day moving and not at a stand still until nap time.  Ha!  Right?  I know a lot of you can handle it, but not this first time mom of two.  But God reminded me of a tool from my classroom days.

The Homework Folder.

Does this look familiar to any one?

Well, I took this little idea and tweak it.  Something quite simple that I’m sure is already out there somewhere on the world wide web.

This is our To Do Folder.  And it has worked wonderfully for us!

How We Use it

Each day I prep my son’s work that he can do independently on the “To Do” side (copy work, math fact sheet, bible memory verse, cut & paste activity, etc.).  I usually do this the night before.

After he finishes his morning jobs, he starts school without me.  I usually have him complete his memory work and math first.  This way he is prepared when I come to work with him.  Other than that, he can do the activities in what ever order he chooses.  Once he completes an activity it goes to the “Done” side.

While he is working independently, I’m keeping his younger brother entertained and out of the kitchen.  Once I put his brother down for his morning nap, I work with Lil’Man on things we need to do together.  If at any point I have to step away, I just tell him to work on any uncompleted activities in his To Do Folder.

This really has been a life saver!  I’m not sure this would work for everyone, but if you have a child that can work independently this might work for you.

Do you have little ones at home?  How do you homeschool and keep them busy?  I’d love to know!  Dropping a nap is in our near future!

I was planning on doing a theme day yesterday, but life just seem to take over.  So, we just took a "snow day" even though it didn't snow.  It snowed a few days ago...so that counts right?   Looks like we will just have to pull this out next week and start our Christmas break a day late.  Oh, the advantages of homeschooling.

Here’s what you’ll find inside: Math (within 10), Christmas Symbols Vocabulary Tracing Strips, Skip Counting Puzzles, 100 Chart Art, and Christmas Symbols Roll & Graph.

Turkey Kindergarten Extension Pack

Our last day of co-op is this Friday, so I’m planning to have a few fun review packs for the boy to do over the next couple of months.  We’re going to call it Fun Friday!! To kick off Fun Fridays I’m planning to use the Turkey K Extension Pack next week.

Here’s what you’ll find inside: Turkey Math, Turkey Varieties Tracing Strips, Skip Counting Puzzles, Label the Parts of the Turkey, and Turkey Spin & Graph.

My son has been loving these packs and I have to say I’m loving them too!  Since it is all review for him, he is able to work on a lot of the stuff independently, which means I can catch up on house work or prep for the holidays.  It is a win-win for both of us.

Pumpkin Kindergarten Extension Pack

So, I’ve schedule some fun themed filled review days for the boy this school year.  He did this K Pumpkin Pack last Thursday, while he was staying with Grandma.  Lil’Bro had a heart study, so it worked out great.  He was able to do it by himself, therefore allowing the day to be “counted.”   If you’re looking for a fun theme day next week for your kindergarten, make sure and grab this new Pumpkin K Extension Pack.  If you need some pumpkin fun for your tot or preschooler, swing by this post.

Here’s what you’ll find inside: Pumpkin Math, Tracing Strips: Pumpkin Varieties, Skip Counting Puzzles, Pumpkin Parts, Pumpkin 100 Chart Art, Pumpkin Observations and Pumpkin Spin & Graph.  Add a few pumpkin books and your day is set.
