FREE Christmas Symbols Kindergarten Pack

I was planning on doing a theme day yesterday, but life just seem to take over.  So, we just took a "snow day" even though it didn't snow.  It snowed a few days ago...so that counts right?   Looks like we will just have to pull this out next week and start our Christmas break a day late.  Oh, the advantages of homeschooling.

Here’s what you’ll find inside: Math (within 10), Christmas Symbols Vocabulary Tracing Strips, Skip Counting Puzzles, 100 Chart Art, and Christmas Symbols Roll & Graph.

Clothespin Rudolph

Tis’ the season to be crafting.  As Christmas approaches, you will likely be crafting with your kiddo, but here is one simple activity you can make.  It involved glue, so E was super happy, and it was easy, so I was super happy!

P1080193

You’ll need:

  • A clothespin
  • some googly eyes (we get an endless supply from the Dollar Tree)
  • Red Pom Pom nose (I should by stock-I get these from Dollar Tree, too)
  • Some brown pipe cleaners (Also at the Dollar Tree)

Directions:

  • Cut a pipe cleaner in half.  Stick half a pipe cleaner through the metal ring of the clothespin and twist it into place.  You can twist two smaller pieces of pipe cleaner on to make “antlers”.
  • Glue on the googly eyes.
  • Glue on the red pom pom

That’s it.  Easy Peasy.  I did put some magnetic strip on the back of ours and they are clips on our fridge now.

Giving Idea:
If your kiddo is glue happy like mine, make several of these and use them to clip gift tags on Christmas presents.  Family would probably like the sweet little addition, and they get a keepsake out of it.

Family Night Idea:
Make the craft and this simple reindeer snack I found over at Be Different, Act Normal.  image
How cute are those!  Settle the family in and watch Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, or read the classic story before bedtime.

Can you tell I am all about EASY????  Seriously, E won’t remember what we made or did 30 years from now, but she will remember that WE made and did something together!

Now, there is one more thing….why not craft with purpose this season?  Be sure and check out our post on the Truth in the Tinsel e-book and make a craft that teaches the real meaning of the season we are celebrating!

Christmas Center Ideas

This week we are updating our “Christmas Symbols” Theme printables.  I can’t wait for you to see our fun new clip art!!

To get you started, I’ve found some fabulous resources that can be use in independent centers or even as additional supplement to our printables.

Pattern Blocks
PreKinders has quite the assortment of FREE pattern block designs.  She offers them in color and black and white.  She has 7 different patterns to choose from for Christmas.

Please note that not all pattern blocks are the same size, therefore all might not fit perfectly with the template provided above.
Use these templates to create your own pattern blocks.  You can also purchase them through Amazon or other various educational websites.

Stamping
Work on letter recognition with our Stamping Strips.  To do this activity you will need uppercase or lowercase stamps and an ink pad.
Hope these ideas are helpful.

Christmas Symbols

This unit has been expanded. So, make sure and get all the printables here.

Here is what we’ve been doing this week. Let us know what you think.  We hope by providing these materials to you free of charge, it will make your life easier!

Lesson Plan: The lesson plan includes all the lessons for the week, as well as optional ideas. Items following the lesson plan are just the printables or links to websites we used to teach these plans.  (Please note: On top of our lesson plan we are reading books daily that relate to our theme.)
Memory Verse: This memory card is for daily use during our calendar time.  You can learn more about calendar time at 1+1+1=1 or Homeschool Creations.  Our weekly devotional is an object lesson that will help your child apply the meaning of the verse to them.
Day 1:
Beginning Writing: Get Santa to his Sleigh- For those tots that may struggle with following the lines, we have added a simpler writing activity.  The 2nd activity has no lines (just a gray path), so all your child has to do is connect the Santa to the sleigh, any way they can.  You can use this document over and over again if you laminate it and then have you child write with dry erase markers. (Black dry erase wipes off easier than color ones.)
Flip & Color: Reindeer -  To do this activity you will need to download the Reindeer picture from Making Learning Fun. This activity will help your child begin to read, count and model whole numbers 1-6.
Christmas Ribbon Weaving- We found this activity at My Montessori Journey.
Day 2:
Wreath Letter Assessment- Use this assessment to determine which letters your child is struggling to recognize. Capital and lowercase assessments available.

Candy Cane Patterns- This activity will help your child begin to recognize, describe and extend patterns.
Wreath Ornament- We found this activity at No Time for Flash Cards. This activity will help your child develop/strengthen his/her fine motor muscles.
Day 3:
Beginning Sounds Christmas Symbols- Helps your child to focus in on the beginning letter sounds he/she hears and then to identify which letter makes that sounds.
Roll & Graph Christmas Symbols- This activity will introduce your child to data collection and interpretation.  Once you’ve completed the graph (first item to 10), make sure to ask simple questions.  Such as, “Which color is taller? What item is that?  Which color is shorter? Which item is that? How many times did we give the (item) a sticker?”  Make sure to show them how to use the graph, instead of just counting the stickers.
Jingle Bell Bracelet- This activity will help your child develop/strengthen his/her fine motor muscles.
We hope you enjoy these lesson plans and please let us know if you have any issues with downloading or using the items provided.

One HUGE Gingerbread House

This week we were planning to re-visit the BIGGEST Gingerbread House we’ve ever seen, but the boy is sick.  [insert pouty lip here] His ear hurt so bad the other day, he kept asking me to kiss it.  I wished my mommy kisses could have fix it.  I hate feeling so helpless, especially when my boy is suffering.

Anyway, we hope to make it there next week.  Until then, I thought I would leave you with these pictures from last year.  And yes, it is completely edible.

The gingerbread house is accompanied by an entire gingerbread village and castle.

The Best Gift Ever!

This week we . are posting lessons you can use with your tot for Christmas.  Our verse is from John 3:16:image

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only son.”

Note: This devotional is HEAVILY inspired by the “What God Wants For Christmas”Affilated link.  set.  image I am condensing the main points of this lesson set for devotional purposes, but I need to give credit where credit is due.  If you like this lesson I strongly encourage you to buy this gift set and bring it out every Christmas season.  We LOVE it, and the simple way it presents the gospel to little ones.

Materials:

  • One Gift bag with the baby Jesus tucked inside like a present

  • One Gift bag with a mirror tucked inside like a present

Directions:

  • Explain to your child that you have two gifts in your hands.  One is just for them from God, and the other is a gift that God wants for Christmas.
  • Give them the bag with Baby Jesus in it and tell them not to open just yet.
  • Go over  the devotional with your child.
  • Say the verse above with your tot.  We suggest that you print the verse off and use it every morning with your calendar time.  If you don’t do calendar time still say the verse each morning with your tot before you begin tot school.

Talk about the following with your tot:

You are holding a very special gift in your hands.  This isn’t just any gift.  Nope, this is a gift that God sent JUST FOR YOU.  Do you want to open it and see what is inside?  Its the baby Jesus!  Did you know that Jesus was God’s ONLY son?  Really, He was.  Our memory verse this week tells us that God sent Jesus just for us.  Jesus was a very special baby, and He grew up to be a very special man because He was the son of God.  God wanted very much to be with you one day in Heaven, and Jesus wanted that, too.  Because Jesus loved us, He was willing to die on the cross for us, so that we could be in Heaven with Him and God.  We have one other gift to open though, don’t we?  In this bag is what God wants for Christmas.   What’s inside?  A mirror, right?   Who is inside the mirror?  That’s right, you!!! God wants you more than anything else this Christmas.  He wants you to know how much He loves you, and He wants you to love Him, too.  This Christmas we might get a lot of presents, but there is one present that is more special than any others that we have.  Let’s pray and thank God for what he gave us at Christmas time.

Dear Father, thank  you so much for sending us your son, Jesus.  We know that He was born to be a very special gift for us.   You gave us so much when you sent Him to be here on Earth with us, and we thank you for the gift you gave.  We know that we are also very special to you, and we ask that you help us grow to know you better.  Help us to give our hearts to you.   Amen.

Questions to ask your tot:

Family Night-Gingerbread Houses

Tonight was by far one of my favorite family nights!  We made Gingerbread Houses, and out finished product was too cute!

CIMG1776

We got a lot of winter-y weather this past weekend, so it was a nice night to just stay inside and have some family time.  We got a Gingerbread House Kit, because making it all from scratch would have been just a tad bit too time consuming. :)  This kit came from the grocery store and normally runs around $10.   Everything is included, including the icing and LOTS of candy for decorating.

CIMG1769 CIMG1770

It’s really a kid friendly kit, and E had a great time decorating things.  We put the icing on and she added the candy.  Well, she added the candy that she didn’t eat!

CIMG1772CIMG1774

We put on one of our favorite Christmas CD’s, Chris Rice’s The Living Room Sessions-Christmas.  Its JUST piano music, but piano music played very well.  Its just classic, and we love it.

The evening was so ideal.  Cold winter night with the wind howling outside, and we were warm and snuggly making Gingerbread houses to Christmas music!  I won’t ever forget it!

I hope that your family night is just as memorable!
