Turkey Kindergarten Extension Pack

Our last day of co-op is this Friday, so I’m planning to have a few fun review packs for the boy to do over the next couple of months.  We’re going to call it Fun Friday!! To kick off Fun Fridays I’m planning to use the Turkey K Extension Pack next week.

Here’s what you’ll find inside: Turkey Math, Turkey Varieties Tracing Strips, Skip Counting Puzzles, Label the Parts of the Turkey, and Turkey Spin & Graph.

My son has been loving these packs and I have to say I’m loving them too!  Since it is all review for him, he is able to work on a lot of the stuff independently, which means I can catch up on house work or prep for the holidays.  It is a win-win for both of us.

Turkey Color Books

This week we are learning about Turkeys!  Now, for the past couple of weeks we have been including some tot books with our units to work on some concepts that aren’t always covered in our printables.  One of those concepts is colors.

Our theme this week lends itself to a learning activity about colors, so we made these two Turkey Feather Color Books to learn about colors and how to write their names!

image image

The color version of the book focuses more on writing skills and you trace the color of the turkey feathers.

image image

The black and white version lets your kiddo color the feathers and trace the colors name!

We hope they will help you out as you plan your studies!

Turkeys

This unit has been expanded. So, make sure and get all the printables here.

Here is what we’ve been doing this week. Let us know what you think.  We hope by providing these materials to you free of charge, it will make your life easier!

Lesson Plan: The lesson plan includes all the lessons for the week, as well as optional ideas. Items following the lesson plan are just the printables or links to websites we used to teach these plans.  (Please note: On top of our lesson plan we are reading books daily that relate to our theme.)
Memory Verse: This memory card is for daily use during our calendar time.  You can learn more about calendar time at 1+1+1=1 or Homeschool Creations.  Our weekly devotional is an object lesson that will help your child apply the meaning of the verse to them.
Day 1:
Turkey Spelling Puzzle- This activity will help your child begin to recognize that when letters are combined they form words.
Turkey Feather Patterns-  This activity will help your child begin to recognize, describe and extend patterns. (This week we included 2 different patterns AABB and ABAB.)
Build a Turkey-  This activity will help teach the basic structures of a turkey. Danielle’s Place has a few ideas that you could use.  The directions are listed, but to access any downloads you’ll need to be a member.  (Note: You shouldn’t need to download anything.)

You can also download our printable and build a one dimensional turkey.

Day 2:
Turkey Beginning Sound Sort- Print this activity off from Making Learning Fun and work on the T beginning sound, if you have time (and printer ink) work on other letters.

Turkey Number Match- This activity will help your child begin to read, count and model whole numbers 1-10.
Turkey Nest- Use this activity to teach your child about turkey homes. You can do this in a variety of ways…the natural1 way2 or the crafty1 way2.
Day 3:
T for Turkey Magnet- Teaches your child how letters are linked to sounds to form letter-sound correspondence.
Feed the Turkey- This activity will help your child begin to read, count and model whole numbers 1-10, while also teaching them about what a turkey eats. (Choose the Counting Cards that are best suited for your child.)

Turkey Life Cycle- This life cycle wheel will introduce your child to a basic life cycle of a turkey.
We hope you enjoy these lesson plans and please let us know if you have any issues with downloading or using the items provided.

Please do not sell or host these files anywhere else. You MAY link people here. When leading others to these printables, please link to THIS page, not the 4shared file page.  Thanks! (See TOU)

All About Turkeys!

Ok, so this week in our schedule we should be taking a field trip.  Well, the only field trips we could think of for a Turkey unit were a Turkey farm or the freezer section of your local supermarket.   Since turkey farms are in short supply here, and the freezer section seemed a little morbid, we decided a power point would serve much better. :)

Enjoy this PowerPoint with your kiddo, and forgive me for the turkey gobble…I might have gotten a little carried away.  I will say that E loved it though, and if your tot drives you crazy with all the gobbling, I apologize!

All of our Needs

This week our memory verse comes from Matthew 6:26.

image

“Look at the birds of the air….your heavenly father feeds them.”

Materials:

  • Some types of food in packages (crackers, cookies, can goods, etc.)

Directions:

  • Have your child look at each of the food items in front of them
  • Ask where they think that food came from.
  • Go over the devotional with your child.
  • Say the verse above with your child.  We suggest that you print the verse off and use it every morning with your calendar time.  If you don’t do calendar time still say the verse each morning with your tot before you begin tot school.

Talk about the following with your tot:

We have a lot of food here, don’t we?  All of this food came from the grocery store, didn’t it?  Did you know that all of the food we have to eat is a gift from God?  Really, it is!  You see, God gave Mommy and Daddy the money to go buy this food so that you can have good things to eat.  Our verse today tells us to look at the birds that fly in the sky and know that God gives them food to eat.  Birds can’t go to grocery stores like people.  They rely on God to give them the good things their bodies need to grow.  God loves us even more than He loves birds, did you know that?  If He loves the birds enough to feed them, then we know that He loves us and won’t let us go without the things we need.  We need to thank God that He has given us food to eat everyday, and we need to thank God that He takes care of those that love Him.

Dear Father, thank you for giving us all the things that we need.  We know that everything comes for you, and that you love us and will give us what we need when we need it.  Thank you for blessing us with good food to eat, and for taking care of all the animals in your creation.  We love you.  Amen

Family Theme Night- Turkeys

Gobble, gobble! It’s Turkey Week on 2 Teaching Mommies! That’s right, this week we are learning all about the bird that many US citizens associate with Thanksgiving.

Below you will find a list of suggestions and choices to create your own unique Family Theme Night.  Pick and choose as you please…remember this isn’t about all the stuff it is about spending time with your family.

Meal: (Dinner, Desert or Both!)

  • Make your favorite turkey dish or just substitute ground turkey in a beef dish.  For example, we had turkey tacos.
  • Here are 2 great deserts that use candy corn (click on the image to take you to the directions):

Thanksgiving Turkey CookiesSweet T.O.M. Turkeys

Activity/Game:

  • Turkey Hunt- Hide a small turkey toy or a turkey print out and have your child try to find it.  As they get “warmer” gobble.
  • Turkey Dance- Find a recording of the Chicken Dance and pretend to be turkeys.  Go here and scroll down to see actions.

Craft:

turkey hat
  • Hand Print Turkeys- This is such a simple well-known craft, but it is just too cute not to do.
