The Very Hungry Caterpillar {Giveaway}

VHC-banner

This year marks the 45th year of The Very Hungry Caterpillar munching, crunching and lunching his way through pears, pies, and pickles.  45 years! Who knew? This beloved classic hasn’t aged a bit and is still entertaining its youngest audience.

It’s not hard to believe why after all these years we’re “still hungry” for this book! I mean, who doesn’t love Eric Carle’s unique illustrations. They’re captivating.  Those images we grew to love long before we understood what the words on the pages meant. Those one-of-a-kind illustrations told the story and by the time we could read the words for ourselves we had already grown to love that fat little caterpillar and had an appreciation for his diverse diet.TheVeryHungryCaterpillar

Naturally a book this good needs to be celebrated. The “official” anniversary celebration will will take place on “Very Hungry Caterpillar Day” which takes place every year on the first day of spring (March 20th). As part of the celebration I’m hosting a giveaway!

The Giveaway

1 lucky reader will receive two limited edition anniversary totes and two copies of The Very Hungry Caterpillar board book (1 to keep and 1 to share)! This giveaway is OPEN U.S. MAILING ADDRESSES ONLY. Ends Mar 11th at 12:00 am EST. (Prizing courtesy of Penguin)

Fabric Sun Photo Kit {Giveaway}

eye can artWe are so excited to be teaming up with Eye Can Art to offer you this fabulous giveaway for their Fabric Sun Photo Kit.

eca_kit_sunphoto_contents

A Little Info About Eye Can Art Kits...

  • 8 kits to select from.
  • Kit prices range from $24 to $30.
  • Comes with enough materials to create several creations.
  • All materials are supplied.

As mentioned above, we got to test out their Fabric Sun Photo Kit.  Let me just say that my son was ecstatic when it arrived in the mail. You see, my son (5 1/2 years old) loves to draw, but he also gets excited about using his hands to create things—mixing pancakes and food coloring, building characters out of Tinker Toys, mushing play dough through a press to create shapes, etc. So he was fascinated by the idea of using the sun and found objects to create art.

IMG_1752  IMG_1754

The Eye Can Art Fabric Sun Photo Kit has everything you need to create nine fabric prints. The only things missing are some found objects from around your house for creating silhouettes and your child's limitless imagination.

IMG_1760  IMG_1764

So, here is my honest opinion on the Fabric Sun Photo Kit:

  • Little to no set up required. – Just open the canister and get to creating.
  • No skill required. – If you child can write, draw, or rummage through the house for flat objects then they can create a unique piece of art.
  • It’s educational. – The instructions introduce your child to the concepts of silhouettes and composition. These might not be terms your child understands yet, but get them going on this art project and they'll have a firm understanding of these ideas.
  • An element of mystery. – Your older children will probably know what to expect from their creation before it is complete, but witnessing our son make some observations about his creation during the process what fun. He was very excited to see his finished work.

Once your fabric sun photo print is complete you can hem the edges to prevent it from fraying and use the included ribbon to create hooks for displaying the artwork. I love that this isn't just another piece of paper to eventually get thrown out (and believe me, we've through out piles of drawings and coloring pages), but that this piece of fabric could be cherished for years to come.

Overall, this kit felt like equal parts artistic expression and science experiment.

What’s in the Bible- Jesus is the Good News {Giveaway}

We can’t get enough of this series.  They have been a real life saver.  They have helped my son to better comprehend terms that are hard to understand by providing fun and entertaining visuals.  They’ve helped me by making it a lot easier to talk to him about faith topics, such as sin, by bringing in things we saw in the video during conversations.  Some big topics that have come up these days are getting to heaven and how Jesus takes our sins away, so you can imagine how excited I was when our What’s in the Bible Vol. 10 – Jesus is the Good News came in the mail! It was perfect timing.

IMG_0892   IMG_1567

My Thoughts

Like I’ve already mentioned our family loves What’s in the Bible! But, WOW, Volume 10 is really special.  Here’s my three favorite things:

  • Thorough - As always a good bit of background is given around the life of Jesus and how God sent his son at the opportune time in human history.  Plus, it  provides information on each of the writers of the gospels and how they wrote them.
  • Relevant - I was amazed by how well the crucifixion scene was done.  It made it understandable for my son, while also still tugging on my heart strings.
  • Reverent - It melts your heart when the characters all remember the crucifixion. They stand in silent reverence while a choir sings the hymn "Were you there when they crucified my Lord?" It really is a touching moment from a cast of puppets.

Overall, this is a DVD you must add to your collection.  And guess what, you have a chance to get it for free!?! I’m teaming up with What’s in the Bible to giveaway Vol 1: The Beginning AND Vol 10: Jesus is the Good News!  If you’d like a chance to win just keep reading!

Episode 1: "God's Perfect Timing" Buck Denver and crew learn about the 400 years between the Old and New Testaments and how Jesus arrives at just the perfect time.

My Favorite Chore Planner {Giveaway}

I’m so excited to be teaming up with Susan from Motivated Moms just in time for the New Year! Susan has a chore planner that has helped me stay on top of my household chores for the last 2 years!  And now thanks to Susan I have the chance to bless one of you with this great planner!

If you haven’t heard of this planner before, then let me fill you in. Motivated Moms is a chore planning system to help you have a clean and organized home and still have time for yourself. It is an easy system to help you know what to do each day. Just consult the list, do the work, check it off for the day and enjoy your free time!

A Little More Info...

  • It is available as a printable eBook which can be downloaded and then printed.  Or you can just view it from your printer.  Perfect for those of you that have to physically cross things off a list! (Click on images to get a larger view.)
2013FullSizeBible 2013HalfPPD
  • It is also available as an app from iTunes, Google Play or Amazon. With the apps you can add unlimited custom tasks and assign tasks to people and rooms., which in turn you can then sort. I LOVE these additional features of the app! (Click on images to get a larger view.)
HTC 4 iPhone 3 iPad 1

I can’t say enough about this chore planner.  I’m the type of person who will start a project that will lead to another project and then to another.  In the end it would seem like I just made a bigger mess and nothing got done. This would often leave me feeling overwhelmed, frustrated and like a terrible housewife.  Once I started using this planner I only allowed myself to do what was on the list, which has eliminated a lot of my frustrations.  On days I didn’t get something done I let it go, knowing that it would show up again.

To top it off, I don’t know about you but making a list was time consuming in and out of itself.  Not only was it time consuming, but I was forgetting things that I needed to do to maintain my household, like changing the air conditioner filter.  With the list already created for me, it help me feel good about myself for keeping up with just the few chores I had to complete that day.

The last 2 years I have been using the printable version, but this year I’m going to try out the iPad app.  (Click on images to get a larger view.)

chore planner0001

iPad 2

As you can see from my picture above, every week I was already going through and assigning different chores by color coding.  I’m looking forward to taking advantage of the app features, especially the sorting feature!

Overall, this is a great system to help you stay on top of your household chores and still have free time in your day! I highly recommend it!

Perfect Study for Christmas {Giveaway}

banner3

We are so excited to be teaming up with Grapevine Studies.  We had the honor to meet and become buds with the face behind this great company, while attending the 2:1 Conference last April.  Here’s a little pic of our late night adventure in DC.

DSC_0033

 Amber & I with Dianna of Grapevine Studies.
Taken by our dear friend Jodi from Granola Mom 4 God.

While at the conference Amber and I got a chance to flip through the variety of studies that Grapevine Studies offer.  As we explored them we fell in love with them and couldn’t wait to introduce our kiddos to them.

So, today I’m so excited to share a little more about the Beginner Birth of Jesus study. And the best part, you’ll have a chance to enter to win your very own teacher and student eBook!!

birthofJesus

This 7 lesson bible study is a perfect way to learn more about the Birth of Jesus. I highly recommend doing it during the month of December because it focuses on the events that surrounded the Nativity. (Topics include: Mary, Joseph, Birth of Jesus, The Shepherds, The Temple, The Wise Men and Herod.)Picture1

A Little More Info...

  • Beginning studies age recommendation is 5-7.  However, younger children can have success with the studies if they able to sit and focus for 15 minutes.
  • The studies teach foundational Bible facts and leave application to the teacher, therefore allowing it to be used across a variety of denominations.  (Check out their Statement of Faith.)

So, here is my honest opinion:

  • Easy to Prepare – All I had to do was pull out the student page, crayons and dry erase board.  Plus, it is completely scripted for the parents!

IMG_0817

  • Fun for Kids – My son’s favorite part was of course the stick figuring.   When I asked if he’d like to do more bible studies like this he said very quickly, “YES!”
IMG_0824
  • Incorporates Variety of Learning Styles – Not only are kiddos hearing the word, but they are seeing it through the teacher/parent stick figuring as well as creating it with their own hands.  And research says that you can enhance your ability to learn and remember by incorporating as many senses as possible.

IMG_0826

Overall, this is a great study that would be perfect to do over the Christmas season. My son loves it and I love how easy it is to teach the bible to my kiddo!
