Langmobile {Review}

As our younger son transitions from infancy into life as a toddler I’ve been considering ways to include him in our homeschooling day. I started a Spanish curriculum with our older son this semester and he has really been enjoying it, but it’s really suited for 1st to 3rd grade students. So I was excited to discover the Langmobile app which was developed with children five years old and younger in mind.

Langmobile is a company that exists to “enrich the quality of life for children of all ages by providing programming and workshops designed to learn languages.” Langmobile’s desire is to see parents bond and interact with their children as they take full advantage of the prime window of opportunity to teach their children a second language.

app-launch7-enLangmobile Mobile App was just released last month and is built upon their method of language learning.  You’ll find it on iTunes and Google Play.  While many apps are designed for independent play or activity time, the Langmobile app is built with parent and child interaction in mind.

Spanish Corazon Lesson-Playtime Activity: Adding a heart (corazon) to things they like (me gusta) and dislike (no me gusta). [He is a big fan of himself and dislikes helping with laundry.] Lil’Bro was just taking his brother’s hearts off of things.

Currently the app is available for $1.99 in iTunes and $1.84 in Google Play. Each language offers four lessons to start with additional lessons added free-of-charge as they become available. You can play songs directly within the app, but if you like you can purchase them for your personal library of songs.

So, here is my honest opinion of Langmobile Mobile App:

  • Everything’s Planned - Essentially Langmobile is offering a language-learning curriculum in the palm of you hand. I love how everything is planned out for you. You will have to do some printing, but that can be done just before starting a new lesson.

Spanish Corazon Lesson: Learning the word “corazon” through a short video.

  • Variety of Learning Styles – Langmobile’s lessons use video, songs, hands on activities and visuals making it perfect for a variety of learners. The music got our 1-year-old moving and both boys enjoyed coloring the corazon (heart).

Spanish Corazon Lesson-Coloring Page: Coloring, counting and creating the love character, while learning “Te quiero” (I love you).

  • Several Languages Included – While we will probably stick to the Spanish lessons, I like that we could also try a French lesson or two if we decided.

If you’re interested in introducing your little ones to another language I recommend trying out the Langmobile app.

Eeek! FREE Phonogram Sounds App

I was so excited when I discovered that All About Learning is now offering a FREE Phonogram Sounds App!  (Special thanks to Homeschool Creations.)

app-banner2And it’s not only for iOS users!  This app is compatible with most computers, tablets, and phones.  You can grab it for the following systems: Mac OSX, Windows, iPad, Android, iPhone, and soon for Kindle!!

This little app will be replacing the Phonogram Sounds CD-ROM in their Interactive Kits. I was stoked to grab it for our iPad!  Honestly, I think I only used the CD-ROM once.  It was just too much of a hassle for me.  We use our iPad a lot during school, so I know we will be taking advantage of this app.

Even if you don’t currently use any products from All About Learning Press, this app is still worth grabbing!

Go get it now!

The ABC’s of GOD {Giveaway}

125X125Icon9At the beginning of the year we had the opportunity to review The ABC’s of GOD by readtheword. (You can read the review here.)  At the time the app was only available for the iPad, which I know many were bummed to discover.  However, I’m happy to announce that they now offer it for the iPhone!  And readtheword has generously provided us with a code, so one of our readers can get it for FREE!  It doesn’t stop there though.  They have also given me a code for their iPad app.

For those of you who might have missed my review, here’s the top 3 things I love about the app.

  1. Emphasis on Scripture – Scripture is used on transition screens,  in find the letter games and each trait that is revealed also has an explanation with a corresponding bible verse. All these traits are stored in the child’s treasure chest, where they can visit.
  2. Variety of Teaching – From learning to write letters to teaching upper and lowercase letters and from word searches to spiritual truths this app covers a lot of territory. And since you have to finish a certain number of activities before more are unlocked this app doesn't get old quickly.
  3. Visually Appealing – The graphics are sharp and colorful. The design is fun and playful.

Overall, The ABC’s of GOD is a quality app and well worth the purchase.  It teaches about the God we serve and my sons loves it and is still asking to play it after all these months. I don’t know if you could ask for more in an app for kids.

The ABC’s of GOD {Review}

125X125IconWe recently had the opportunity to review The ABC’s of GOD by readtheWord.  It is an iPad app that was created by a parent of three, school teacher, and Bible student.  Its main goal is to provide families with the opportunity to share with their children who God says He is from His Word.  Each letter in the alphabet teaches one of God’s traits.

A Little Info About ABC’s of GOD...

  • Offers 4 types of activities- Learn Letters (each letter reveals a truth about God), Fridge Letter Match, Chalkboard, and Word Search.
  • Incorporates three learning styles (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic).
  • Up to 4 children can play, each having their own individual account, with progress and rewards saved for next time.
  • It cost $1.99 and can be purchase through iTunes.

Watch a short clip from the video below for a better glimpse into the app.

So, here is my honest opinion of the app.

Plus(es):

  • Emphasis on Scripture – Scripture is used on transition screens,  in find the letter games and each trait that is revealed also has an explanation with a corresponding bible verse. All these traits are stored in the child’s treasure chest, where they can visit.
  • Visually Appealing – The graphics are sharp and colorful. The design is fun and playful.
  • Age Appropriate – The individual activities are engaging and, for the most part, self-explanatory. My son picked it up very quickly.
  • Music – The background music is nice, especially considering it’s a children’s app.  It definitely won’t drive the parents insane.  At the same time, kid’s will love its cheerful and upbeat melody.
  • Variety – From learning to write letters to teaching upper and lowercase letters and from word searches to spiritual truths this app covers a lot of territory. And since you have to finish a certain number of activities before more are unlocked this app doesn't get old quickly.

    IMG_0088  IMG_0091

     Wish(es):

    There really isn’t a lot to wish for from this app. As I said in the beginning, its main goal is to teach children about who God says He is from His Word.  And it accomplishes it.  The following wishes are really more about letter instruction.

  • Letter Formation –  A couple of the letters (such as the lowercase q and d) are taught to be written a little differently than I'm used to, but once you've unlocked the chalk board you're free to write the letters how you prefer. All 26 letters are around the chalk board and you can tap them individually to switch between upper and lower case.

    Overall, The ABC’s of GOD is a quality app and well worth the purchase.  It teaches about the God we serve and my sons loves it and asks to play it all the time. I don’t know if you could ask for more in an app for kids.
