Here is what we’ve been doing this week. Let us know what you think.  We hope by providing these materials to you free of charge, it will make your life easier!

My Family My Home Unit

Just click the image above to download a single zip file from Google Drive. (Can’t unzip it. Try Hamster Free Zip Archiver approved by Amber’s husband. Remember to download carefully.)

You will need to be able to view pop-ups to download the unit, as it will appear in a pop up window from our site!

Below is a list with our full lesson plans.

Lesson Plan: The lesson plan includes all the lessons for the week, as well as optional ideas. Items following the lesson plan are just the printables or links to websites we used to teach these plans.  (Please note: On top of our lesson plan we are reading books daily that relate to our theme throughout the week.)

MyFamily MyHome LPMemory Verse: This memory card is for daily use during our calendar time.  You can learn more about calendar time at 1+1+1=1 or Homeschool Creations.  Our weekly devotional is an object lesson that will help your child apply the meaning of the verse to them.
Day 1:

Family Spelling Match- For this activity you will write out family names (Mommy, Daddy, siblings names, etc.) on separate sheets of paper or index cards. Then have your child use letter tilesAffilation link. or scrabble pieces to copy the spelling.  If you do not have either of those tools you can print some at one of the following websites:

Letter Tiles will be used often, so we suggest printing it on cardstock and laminating them for durability.  Also, you will want to have at least 2 copies of the lowercase letters.

Family Size Sort- This activity can be varied depending on your child’s skill level.  For example you can sort into 2 or 3 piles (Big & Small or Big, Medium & Small).

familysizesort2-1My Daily Home Routine- If you have an opportunity to take pictures of your child doing their daily routine (or acting it out) then make sure you have your pictures printed and ready to sequence for this activity.  If not, no worries we found something you can use.  (Take Note: The link is to a website in the UK, so spellings could vary.)

Day 2:

Mommy/Baby Letter Match- Use letter tiles,Affilation link. scrabble pieces, or the same document from Family Letter Matching.  Have your child match the capital (Mommy or Big) letter to the lowercase (Baby or Small) letter.

How Many Windows?- The activity comes in color or black & white depending on how much ink you would like to use.  We will be posting a video on Facebook of it in action.  The counting cards is another document that may be used often, so we suggest printing it on cardstock and laminating it for durability. Of course a deck of cards could be used in place of the counting cards.

Neighborhood Walk with Bingo Card- (Not all images are seen in picture below.) We used this activity as we went on our field trip this week.

Day 3:

Family Beginning Writing- Not all tots will be ready for this, so don’t stress if yours has difficulty.  I helped my son trace the lines, and then just let him go.   He was all over the place, but he was still working on fine motor development. You can use this document over and over again if you laminate it and then have you child write with dry erase markers.

My Neighborhood Coloring Book- Use this book to review colors with your child, as you talk about the things in their neighborhood.

Tots Around Town-My Family, My Home

Our goal at 2 Teaching Mommies is to give you ideas that are easy to do, but fun for everybody.  Our field trips section will provide ideas for places you can go with your kiddo and take the whole family along.   For our field trip this week you don’t have to go too far from home!  Since our unit this week is “My Family, My Home” we want to encourage you to go for a walk around your neighborhood!

Game to play:

  • Download these Neighborhood Bingo cards for your tot. 100_1033
  • You can laminate them and use a dry erase marker on them, or you can give your tot some stickers.
  • As you spot different items on you bingo card mark them off.

E really liked looking around to mark off all the items on her bingo card.  She yelled “BINGO!” every time she spotted something on her card, and she had a good time.

Afterwards:

  • Determine beforehand what you might want to offer for a prize when you little one completes their bingo card.
  • Some ideas for prizes could be a special snack, or even letting you kiddo pick a movie to watch.

E got to pick a movie for our night.  She wanted to watch “UP”, so that’s what we watched.  Don’t worry about being too formal, just go out and have fun with your kiddos!

Me and My House will Serve the Lord!

The verse you will be working on with your child in the next unit, My Home, My Family, is Joshua 24:15.

image

“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Materials:

Directions:

  • Turn off all of the lights in your house.
  • Go into one room where it is dark and turn on the flash light.
  • Ask you kiddo “Do you like to be in the dark?”  Explain to them that sometimes when we are in the dark it can be hard to see.
  • Turn on the flashlight and ask “Don’t you like it when there is light to see by?”  Listen to their response and turn on the main light in the room.
  • Talk about this weeks devotion.
  • When you are done, go to each dark room in the house and exclaim “WE WILL SERVE THE LORD!”  As you say this, turn the light on in that room and leave it on.

Talk with your child about the following:
No one likes to be in the dark, do they?  Its always nice to have a light to help us see.  Jesus told us that we can be light in the world.  He told us that if we follow his commands and serve one another others will see the light in our life.  You serve mommy and daddy when you pick up your toys, or help us set the table, or listen when we ask you to do something.  When we all serve one another, our fills up with the love of Jesus!  Its kind of like every room in the house having the light on!  Will you go with me to each room in the house and promise to serve the Lord?  When we do, the room will fill up with light!  Come on, lets go!

Questions to ask:

  • Why did God make you?  To bring Him glory!
