Day 5-The Whip

You’ll use this lesson 8 days before Easter. You’ll be using the forth resurrection egg, which is green (color may vary) and will have a leather whip on the inside.

Before you do the lesson we recommend that you read a short segment about the Garden of Gethsemane. We will be using The Beginner’s BibleAffilated link., The Jesus Storybook Bible (pg. 302)Affilated link. or or Read and Share: The Ultimate DVD Bible - Volume 2Affilated link..  Many Bibles for younger readers include the account of Jesus’ beating with the crucifixion, not as a separate story.  The next several lessons pertain to the crucifixion, so you can decide whether you want to read the story several times, or just the parts that pertain to the lesson for the day.

The Beginner's Bible: Timeless Children's Stories The Jesus Storybook Bible: Every Story Whispers His Name Read and Share: The Ultimate DVD Bible - Volume 2

Talk with your child about the story:
In our story today we read about something terrible that happened to Jesus.  You see, many people didn’t believe that Jesus was the Son of God.  They didn’t know that He had come just to save them and show them how much God loves them.  Even though Jesus had never done anything wrong they wanted to kill him because they didn’t like him.

Sometimes we do things that we shouldn’t do, but Jesus never did anything he wasn’t supposed to.  The people that were angry at Jesus didn’t care that he hadn’t done anything wrong.  They wanted to hurt him, and even though Jesus could have made them stop, he didn’t.   He let them beat him with a whip, much bigger than this one in the egg today.  The whip hurt Jesus very much.
