Graphing Through the Final Four

March Madness is about to come to a close and for many of us or brackets are busted.  For some our teams have lost, while others have battled hard to stay in game.

I personally am not a big basketball fan, but that won’t keep my boys from watching it.

To make it a bit more interesting,  I’ve created a new Ask & Graph!!

Basketball Ask and Graph

Is you team still fighting? Who are you hoping goes all the way?

Basketball Center Ideas

This week we are expanding our “Basketball” Theme printables.

Below you will find some activities that your kiddo should be able to do independently, while still reinforcing key concepts and building fine motor skills.

Games

Here’s another File Folder Game. In this activity your kiddo will work on color recognition as they match the basketballs to the correct jersey.

Lacing Cards

Use the templates below to create your own lacing cards.  Just print on cardstock, cut them out and laminate for durability. Then add some holes around it with a hole punch.

Magnet Pages

We’ve got a whole new set of magnet pages ready just for you.

Click to Download 4 magnet pages.

You can use several different things with your magnet pages. Do-a-Dot Paints work great, but then you’ll only get one use out of them.  I recommend laminating the pages and using Bingo Chips, Power Magnets or homemade pom-pom magnets with them.

Hope you’re a “fan” of these ideas.

Basketball!

This unit has been expanded. So, make sure and get all the printables here.

Here is what we’ve been doing this week. Let us know what you think.  We hope by providing these materials to you free of charge, it will make your life easier!

Lesson Plan: The lesson plan includes all the lessons for the week, as well as optional ideas. Items following the lesson plan are just the printables or links to websites we used to teach these plans.  (Please note: On top of our lesson plan we are reading books daily that relate to our theme.)

Memory Verse: This memory card is for daily use during our calendar time.  You can learn more about calendar time at 1+1+1=1 or Homeschool Creations.  Our weekly devotional is an object lesson that will help your child apply the meaning of the verse to them.

Day 1:
Basketball Pre-Write- (Can also be used for cutting practice.)You can use this document over and over again if you laminate it and then have you child write with dry erase markers. (Black dry erase wipes off easier than color ones.)

Basketball Clip Cards-  This activity will help your child practice counting whole numbers 1-10 and recognizing those numbers by sight.

Basketball Lacing Card-  Use this basketball lacing card to  help your child with fine motor skills.

Day 2:
Basketball Letter Clip Card- Assesses either letter recognition or letter sounds.

Basketball Dice Game- Teaches your child counting and number recognition.  You can use the 1-2-3 dice to prolong the game.

Basketball Color Match- Helps your child recognize and match colors.

Day 3:
Basketball Magnet Page- Use this basketball magnet page to help teach your child how letters are linked to sounds to form letter-sound correspondence.

Basketball Size Sort- This activity can be varied depending on your child’s skill level.  For example you can sort into 2 or 3 piles (Big & Small or Big, Medium & Small).

Jersey Craft- Download and print this blank jersey template and let your child decorate their own jersey.

We hope you enjoy these lesson plans and please let us know if you have any issues with downloading or using the items provided.

Thursday Madness!

We try our best to keep a consistent schedule here at 2 Teaching Mommies.  We alternate posts, and on Thursdays we try to post a craft or a field trip.  Unfortunately, both seem to be in short supply for our chosen theme of the week, which is basketball.

That being said, I thought it might be nice to give you something to do with your tots while you watch your favorite college teams get eliminated in the first round (way to go UofL….stellar I must say, not that I’m bitter or anything).

So, here is something to keep that kiddo involved, before they have any clue what is going on in the game.

I call it Basketball Bingo, which I am well aware isn’t the most creative name, but hey, I have alliteration on my side.

Basketball Bingo

You can download it, hand it out to the kids, and hope that it keeps them entertained until half-time. :)

I hope your games go better than ours have, and that your brackets look better than mine!

Family Theme Night- Basketball

Now that the field is set and the danced cards are punched, it is time to make March Madness a family affair!  Yes, that is right it is time for a Basketball family theme night.  Can I hear your cheer?

Dribble it (clap, clap)
Pass it (clap, clap)
We made a basket! (clap, clap)

Below you will find a list of suggestions and choices to create your own unique Family Theme Night.  Pick and choose as you please…remember this isn’t about all the stuff it is about spending time with your family.

Meal: (Dinner, Desert or Both!)

  • Concession stand favorites (hot dogs, nachos, hamburgers, etc.)
  • Basketball Cupcakes from Family Fun- You’ll probably want to make these ahead of time, but wouldn’t your kiddos love them.  Of course to make life easier all you need is sugar cookies and orange frosty.

march-madness-cupcakes-recipe-photo-420-FF0308EFDA07

Activity/Game:

  • Basketball Drills- Get outside or head to an indoor basketball court.  Take some time to teach your kiddo some of your dribbling moves!
  • Basketball Game- Watching basketball on TV can be fun too.  Make sure to support your favorite college team by dressing in team colors or logo wear.
  • Indoor Basketball- Place a wastebasket on the floor and use masking tape to mark distances from the basket. Get the kids to toss in balls made with scrunched up newspapers. See who can get the ball in from the furthest distance away.

Craft:

I couldn’t find a lot of fun craft ideas. So, if you have any basketball crafts that you’d recommend please share in the comments!
