Must Read- Pilgrims & Indians

It is Thanksgiving theme week here at 2 Teaching Mommies. Below are a couple of our favorites books that we have read, so far:

feastThis The FeastAffilation Link. is a wonderful story about the first Thanksgiving told in verse. The book shares about the Pilgrims aboard the Mayflower, how with the help of the Indians they survive the first year and ends with their three-day celebration of Thanksgiving.  This story provides great historical information not only in the text, but with the illustrations as well. Throughout the text you’ll also notice the Christian roots of Thanksgiving by the Pilgrims turning to God for help and giving Him praise for His blessings.  This is definitely a book to add to your home collection.

pilgrim bookOne Little, Two Little, Three Little PilgrimsAffilation Link.I love how this book used a familiar rhyme, but then added to it with descriptions and pictures of the different tasks the children did to prepare for the Thanksgiving feast.  It is a great story for showing the differences between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians at a basic level.  My son really loved looking at the colorful pictures and pointing to the things he recognized.
