Math Activity- Leopard Spots

I totally forgot about this activity that I created last year, so I wanted to share it with your because it would go perfect with our zoo unit.

Oh, and kudos to my husband who created the leopard.  He creates quite a few of the images we have used. His most recent creations were our vehicles from the transportation unit.

For this activity your preschooler will color in a leopard’s spots by playing a number recognition game.

MATERIALS (for each student)

  • Leopard playing board (attached)
  • Crayon or marker (dry-eraser marker if laminating playing board)
  • Die (you can use more than one to make it more challenging)

STEPS

  1. Print a leopard playing board for each child. (Laminate if desired.) Example
  2. Have the children take turns rolling a die and identifying the number on it.
  3. Then have them color the corresponding number of spots on the leopard with a crayon.
  4. The first child to fill in all their spots on their leopard is the winner.

I also wrote a song to go along with it.

Song: Did You Ever See A Leopard

Sung to: "Have You Ever Seen a Lassie"

Did you ever see a leopard,
a leopard, a leopard?
Did you ever see a leopard with so many spots?
With big spots and small spots
And black spots and round spots.
Did you ever see a leopard
with so many spots?
